The main idea is related to the creation of a unique spiritual and phenomenal whole, achieved by a similar materialization of individual parts and equally abstract symbolism. The first guiding thread is certainly the the spirit of St. John Paul, whose virtue is transfered ambientaly into the interior, through pure bright space. In the treatment of the presbytery and its individual spaces, I was guided by liturgical ideas from the project task, which I tried to embody in minimalist abstract forms whose appearance would not disturb the spirituality, purity and peace of the whole. The organic form of the final space arose from the aspiration to create a space different from the everyday, and contextually related to the theme of the chapel. The straight lines transferred to the floor plan create the impression of a different and natural space, and at the same time keep the focus on the presbytery with the oblique position. Indirect light sources trough stained glasses reaching the chapel like subtle vertical rays. These light sources are also artistically transferred to the inner space and walls with the proposed design in a metal frame with a combination of clear glass and sandblasted “light rays”, in order to invite with their translucency inside, and at the same time contribute to the interior ambience. Furniture and interior details are specially designed.
Stained glass to the left „Pope John Paul II“
Symbolically depicting the Pope’s significant contribution to reconciliation, through a stylized dove striving for heaven, with more discretely shown take-off phases in the lower part of the stained glass as a depiction of the pope’s humble action among the people during his earthly life.
Stained glass „Ivan Merz“
Symbolically shown is the synergy of true faith and worship of the Eucharist, and the exceptional learning that characterized Blessed Ivan Merz. The stylized rays of the “IHS” symbol illuminate the abstract depiction of the book at the bottom of the stained glass window, with a discreet dove in the background sky as a symbol of John’s veneration of the papacy, and as a staple with a stained glass window dedicated to Pope John Paul II.
